National Film Awards: Vicky Kaushal And Ayushmann Khurrana Share Best Actor

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's controversial Padmaavat dominated this year's National Awards as the film won three honours in different categories. Uri also won the awards for Background Music and Sound Design; AndhaDhun won Best Hindi Film and the Adapted Screenplay prize for director-writer Sriram Raghavan. This year, Uri director Adhitya Dhar was bestowed with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for Best Director, Ayushmann Khurrana shared the Best Actor Award with Vicky Kaushal for Uri.

As for other top honours, Gujarati film "Hellaro" was declared Best Feature Film victor, Keerthy Suresh was declared victor of Best Actress trophy for her performance in Telugu movie "Mahanati" and Uttarakhand was declared the Most Film Friendly State.

The announcement was made in a press conference by Rahul Rawail, Chairperson, Feature Film Category; AS Kanal, Chairperson, Non-Feature Film Category and Utpal Borpujari, Chairperson, Best Writing on Cinema.

The best film on social issues went to Akshay Kumar-starrer Padman inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist from Tamil Nadu who introduced low-priced sanitary napkins.

South Indian actor Keerthy Suresh won the best actress honour for Mahanati, a biopic on popular yesteryear actor Savitri. Padman too won the Best film on social cause award.

Bhansali said it was a big moment for him as music has always been a huge part of his creative endeavours and something that kept him sane during the many controversies that "Padmaavat" faced.

Ondalla Eradalla (Kannada) was adjudged the Best Film On National Integration. Keerthy is the fourth actress from Tollywood to bag the national Best Actress award after Sarada (for Nimajjanam, 1978), Archana (Daasi, 1988) and Vijayashanti.

Neena Gupta took to social media and wrote, "Congratulations to the whole team of Badhaai ho and Surekha Sikri for winning best-supporting actress at the 66th National Awards". Awe won two awards, one for Best Make-up artist for Ranjit, and the other for Best Special Effects. Sarkari Area Prathamika Shaale Kasaragod won the Best Children's film award.
