"We call on Pakistan and India to resolve disputes through dialogue and negotiation and jointly uphold regional peace and stability", it said in a written response circulated to the media here.

Qureshi made the remarks at a news conference in Islamabad, adding that Pakistan reserves the right to respond to any Indian aggressive options.

Both Pakistan and India claim all of Kashmir.

Pakistan says the use of such ammunition is in violation of the Geneva Convention and global humanitarian law. Wang also "noted that Pakistan and India are both China's friendly neighbours and major developing countries that are in a crucial stage of development".

The UK government has previously expressed "concerns" over the situation in Jammu and Kashmir after India on August 5 revoked Article 370 of the Constitution to withdraw the special status given to the state and bifurcated it into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

India accuses Pakistan of providing arms and training to rebels to attack Indian forces and other targets, a charge Islamabad denies.

Indian authorities have detained at least 300 politicians and separatists to quell protests in India-run Kashmir over the withdrawal of its special status, a police officer, local leaders and media said.

According to Shamsi, Prime Minister Imran said Pakistan can not afford war due to a weak economic situation but is looking to "actively galvanise Western governments and public opinion on the violations in Kashmir".

He held talks with Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi during which he said he believed "China will stand up for justice on the Kashmir issue", said a statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

"The foreign minister will have important meetings with the Chinese leadership in Beijing" following the "unilateral" measures taken by India, the Pakistani government said in a tweet on Friday.

The constitutional changes also eliminate Kashmir's right to its own constitution, limit its decision-making power and allow non-Kashmiri Indians to settle there.

India-controlled Kashmir has been under an unprecedented security lockdown to prevent unrest as the decisions were announced.

Tuesday's notification further noted that Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Attorney-General of Pakistan Anwar Mansoor Khan, Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood, and the PM's special envoy, Ahmed Bilal Sufi, as well as the directors-general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Military Operations, and the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) were among the committee's members.

Pakistan says it is considering a proposal to approach the International Court of Justice over India's action.
