Chandrayaan 2: All you need to know about India’s second lunar mission

"Chandrayaan-2, with an Indian Lander-Rover (Vikram-Pragyaan) combine, is India's first step in robotic space exploration and the mission is on the anvil". The launch will take place from an island off India's southeastern coast and aims to explore the moon's unchartered south polar region.

President Ram Nath Kovind will be the top dignitary to witness the launch of the country's high profile mission Chandrayaan-2 on Monday.

Chandrayaan-2 is India's second lunar exploration mission after Chandrayaan-1 in 2008, which confirmed the presence of water-ice in the lunar Poles.

The Indian Space Research Organization plans to launch a spacecraft using homegrown technology on Monday at 2:51 am, and it is scheduled to touch down on the moon September 6 or 7.

Chandrayaan-2, India's second lunar mission, will be the first such vehicle in the world that will land on the southern pole of the Moon.

Mission Chandrayaan-2 is the first worldwide to conduct a soft landing on the moon's South Polar Region.

Upon landing, Vikram will deploy a rover named "Pragyan". It will also save energy and time required to reach the target area.

The mission, Chandrayaan-2, which means "moon vehicle" in Sanskrit, will send a rover to collect samples from the surface of the moon and monitor seismic activity.

According to IRSO chief K. Sivan, the 15-minute final descent will be the most terrifying moment of the whole mission.
