No doubt the story was Vladimir Guerrero Jr Monday night, but people were amazed by Acuna as well. Pete Alonso of the New York Mets eliminated the hometown fan favorite 14-13.

But the bracket pitted the NL East foes against each other in the semifinals, where Alonso and his polar bear cleats beat out Acuña with a last second home run to win 20-19.

(It should be mentioned that both players in the final round, not just Alonso, had customized cleats).

The annual MLB Home Run Derby is set to get underway at 8 p.m. ET tonight on ESPN. "We gave everyone a good show, and that's what we wanted". He said he would donate 10% of his winnings between two charities, the Wounded Warriors Project and the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

However, he is participating in festivities during the break in the Home Run Derby.

Guerrero Jr. opened the second round with 29 more homers, matching his first-round record.

Guerrero followed that up with an epic matchup with Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson in the semifinals.

At least five dead in Taliban blast in Afghan city

The Blue Jays rookie hit a total of 91 homers over three rounds - needing three separate tiebreakers to get past Dodgers slugger Joc Pederson in the second - smashing the Derby record in the process. "I'm going to remember that for the rest of my life", Alonso said.

It's important to note that the format for the derby was different for Guerrero Jr. than it was for Hamilton in 2008.

Pederson had a slow start to the first round but found a rhythm and advanced by hitting 21 homers to the 16 of the Houston Astros' Alex Bregman, who hit a number of balls to the left-field wall that might have gone out in Houston but came up short in Cleveland.

They were tied 29-all after their four-minute round and then again following a 60-second session.

After Acuna posted 19 dangers, averaging 418 per blast, Alonso stepped in knowing exactly how many he needed to hit.

"I'm happy I didn't face him in the early rounds because he would've knocked me out", Alonso said. The rigours of swinging for the fences all night may have finally caught up to Guerrero as he "only" hit 22 home runs in his final round.

But Alonso was up to the challenge, and shocked Guerrero, who had electrified a crowd of 36,199 fans while also destroying an on-field camera with one of the balls he didn't crush over the all.
