European Union calls on Iran to uphold nuclear deal, reverse uranium enrichment breach

Iran has set its own 60-day deadline for saving the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, which it said would expire in September.

Israel has long said that every option is on the table to ensure that Iran does not develop a nuclear weapon.

Iran has said it is responding to sanctions the United States reinstated a year ago.

Europe is now racing against the clock to save the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA.

"We have called on Iran not to take any further steps", the European Union foreign affairs service spokeswoman said.

They say a meeting of the JCPOA commission, which also includes Russian Federation and China, "should be convened urgently", but didn't specify when.

"We are aware of Iran's announcement related to its uranium enrichment level", the agency said Monday.

"We strongly urge Iran to stop and reverse all activities inconsistent with its commitments".

Britain's Press Association quoted a ministry spokesman saying: "While the United Kingdom remains fully committed to the deal, Iran must immediately stop and reverse all activities inconsistent with its obligations".

The US has said it would continue to "impose maximum pressure" against Iran till the regime gives up its "destabilising ambitions" of expanding its nuclear programme.

Uranium, a radioactive element mined from the ground, is described as enriched after it has been converted into a gas and passed through centrifuges - a process leaving it with a higher concentration of a particular isotope suitable for nuclear fission, called U-235. Under the agreement, it could have no more than 300 kilograms (661 pounds) of 3.67% enriched uranium. The global agreement was meant to restrain the country's nuclear activities.

This Report Debunks Theory About Kevin Durant’s Free Agency Decision
Kawhi Leonard took nearly a week to make his shocking decision to join LA's other team, the Los Angeles Clippers. ESPN had reported that Leonard had talked to Kevin Durant about teaming up.

But "Iran will never have a nuclear weapon", Trump asserted.

"Iran is neither a member of the EU nor subject to any European oil embargo". "I see all of our weapons systems and planes". Iran has the technical ability to build and operate advanced centrifuges that work faster, but is barred from doing so under the deal. However, it would wait for more information from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) before taking any action.

It is considered an important intermediate stage on the path to obtaining the 90 percent pure fissile uranium needed for a bomb.

Germany said it was waiting for more information from the International Atomic Energy Agency, whose inspectors monitor Iran's nuclear activities.

Under the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, which was signed by the United Kingdom, the U., Russia, China, France, Germany and the European Union, Iran agreed to destroy its stockpile of medium-enriched uranium and cut its stockpile of low-enriched uranium by 98%.

Despite the Iranian threat to boost enrichment, the United States said its renewed sanctions against Tehran were working and warned Iranian leaders not to underestimate USA resolve.

Vice President Mike Pence, who spoke to the same group, added a warning: 'Iran should not confuse American restraint with a lack of American resolve, ' reiterating Washington's resolve to protect USA personnel and citizens in the Middle East.

Iran denies it seeks nuclear weapons, but the nuclear deal sought to prevent that as a possibility by limiting enrichment and Iran's stockpile of uranium.

After the USA withdrawal from the treaty, France, Germany and the United Kingdom created a joint mechanism to continue doing business with Iran, in spite of U.S. sanctions.

If they failed, he said, Iran might start enriching uranium beyond 3.67% concentration. They have little appetite to sign on to new sanctions, although they have even less interest in a nuclear Iran.
