The New York Yankees appear intent on living up to the "Bronx Bombers" nickname with their addition of Edwin Encarnacion. ESPN's Jeff Passan first reported the trade Saturday evening on Twitter, and the club officially announced the trade several hours later. Encarnacion was traded to Seattle before the 2019 campaign and is batting.241 with 49 RBIs. Boone said he could use Encarnacion, tops in the American League with 21 homers, at first base on occasion.

Encarnacion, acquired from the Seattle Mariners, was in the lineup Monday night against the Tampa Bay Rays as the Yankees return home from a road trip for what is setting up as an explosive homestand.

The 36-year-old still is owed over $15 million, but The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported both NY and Seattle will split the money.

The Mariners will get 19-year-old pitching prospect Juan Then in return.

Then went 0-3 with a 2.70 ERA in 11 starts in the Gulf Coast League in 2018. He will report to Short-A Everett. Daniel Vogelbach is a designated hitter who can play the position, but Seattle is a far better team if he's not in the field.
