Boeing executives apologize for 737 Max crashes

The FAA was castigated for refusing to ground Boeing's 737 Max fleet following two fatal crashes caused by a software malfunction.

As expected Airbus has launched a super fuel-efficient A321XLR version of its very successful A321neo the - at the Paris Air Show.

At the same time, Boeing asserted that that name change is not a top priority.

The layout of the forthcoming aircraft has not yet been revealed, but Boeing said that "the 787-10 can serve up to 330 passengers in a standard two-class configuration, about 40 more than Korean Air's existing fleet of 787-9 airplanes".

European aerospace company Airbus won a major order of 100-aircraft over its rival Boeing, a sign that the company's 737 MAX 8 crisis might be creating a broader reputational problem for the company going forward.

Few blockbuster products or orders are expected at the world's biggest aerospace show, which brings together almost 2,500 firms from 49 countries, and 290 official delegations, including government leaders and military chiefs. "That is a matter we are discussing with regulators and customers, but technology-wise we don't see a hurdle".

Boeing is trying to win back trust from airlines, pilots, regulators and the travelling public.

Airbus also reported sales to Delta Air Lines, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Atlantic Airways, and announced a feasibility study for vertical takeoff and landing aircraft that could shuttle visitors to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

If Tuesday's deal is converted into a firm order, it would be worth $24 billion according to list prices, but IAG said it had negotiated "a substantial discount".

Analysts say almost 40,000 planes will be in service by 2038, double the industry's current fleet. Boeing on Monday increased its 20-year industry demand forecast.

Middle East Airlines has agreed to buy four of the new model, the A321XLR, while United States leasing company Air Lease Corporation will buy 27 as part of a larger 100-plane order.
