A section of Kenyans on social media have come out to express their fear over the suspected case of Ebola reported in Kericho county. If confirmed as Ebola, it would be Kenya's first ever case of the virus and represent a worrying spread of the disease from eastern Congo.

"Precautionary measures have, however, been put in place including isolation of the patient and submission of blood samples. for testing", she said.

The woman admitted to Kericho hospital was said to have travelled from Malaba border on Sunday and taken to the facility after she complained of a headache, body fever, diarrhea and nausea, symptoms associated with Ebola.

One of two suspect cases in the isolation unit has tested negative and has been discharged and results for the other are pending.

Kariuki had earlier in the day conducted an inspection tour at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to ascertain the facility's preparedness to screen arriving passengers. "The result of the same are expected by 4 p.m. this evening (Kenya time)".
