Trump Walks Back Comments on Offers of Foreign Dirt amid Bipartisan Criticism

The uproar follows Trump's remarks to ABC's George Stephanopoulos, in which he said he would be open to receiving information about his 2020 election opponent from a foreign country.

ABC News' George Stephanopoulos asked Trump about McGahn's testimony in an interview this week. "I think you might want to listen, there isn't anything wrong with listening", Trump said in an interview aired on Wednesday. "It's not an interference. I don't think anybody would present me with anything because they know how much I love the country", Trump said Friday. "If I thought there was something wrong, I'd go maybe to the Federal Bureau of Investigation".

"If a foreign government comes to you as a public official, and offers to help your campaign giving you anything of value, whether it be money or information on your opponent, the right answer is no", he said.

During the interaction, President Trump made some typically odd comments, including the one where he said that he has seen a lot of things in his life but has never called the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and that the "FBI director is wrong" in expecting things to be reported to him.
