Trump praises 'beautiful' letter from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un

Trump and Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said they couldn't accept the proposal because the regime still had hidden nuclear production facilities and missiles elsewhere that could threaten the U.S.

On Tuesday, Trump described Kim's missive as a "beautiful letter", adding that it was "very personal, very warm, very nice".

It was only in June 2018 that Trump did an abrupt about-face and held his first summit with Kim Jong-un in Singapore.

A Security Council diplomat told reporters late Wednesday that the USA, along with 25 other countries, had complained to the U.N. Security Council sanctions committee monitoring the country's compliance with sanctions slapped on the country in 2017.

The visit may quiet questions about the status of Kim Yo Jong after Kim Jong Un's reshuffle of his inner circle after a failed summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in February.

The sister, Kim Yo Jong, visited the border village of Panmunjom in the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas to pay her respects to Lee Hee-ho, the widow of former South Korean President Kim Dae-jung, a South Korean official said.

White House's National Security Adviser John Bolton also supported the new summit.

But Trump and United States officials would not confirm or deny the reporting from the Wall Street Journal that he was a Central Intelligence Agency asset.

However, Reuters reports Russian tankers have supplied fuel to North Korea by transferring cargoes at sea. Her unpublicised meeting with President Moon Jae-In on sidelines of the event paved for sets of "successful" bilateral meeting between Jae-In and Jong-Un.

Morgan Ortagus, the U.S. State Department spokesperson, said in a briefing Wednesday that Washington is "ready and willing to continue engagement on working-level negotiations with the North Koreans".
