The gunman suspected of shooting David Ortiz at a bar in the Dominican Republic on Sunday night was arrested Wednesday as part of a group authorities said were offered $400,000 Dominican pesos, or about $7,800 USA dollars, for a coordinated hit on the former Red Sox player, according to NBC News.

Police Maj. Gen. Ney Aldrin Bautista Almonte says the coordinator of the shooting of David Ortiz was offered 400,000 Dominican pesos, or about $7,800, to carry out the crime.

Police are also in possession of the gun used in the shooting.

"Two vehicles, one motorcycle, and several individuals participated in the attack against David Ortiz", Bautista stated, according to Marly Rivera of ESPN.

"On behalf of me and my family, I want to thank John and Linda Henry, Tom Werner, Sam Kennedy and the Boston Red Sox for all that they are doing for David and our family, as well as Dr. Larry Ronan and the awesome staff at Massachusetts General Hospital".

The Dominican Republic is one of the world's most unsafe countries.
