One dead and six injured in Dallas crane collapse amid severe thunderstorms

Dallas Fire and Rescue officials said the metal frame collapsed into the apartment block near Good Latimer and Live Oak in Downtown Dallas.

First responders searched every apartment they could reach and found no other victims, Evans said.

"It just sliced through the building. like a hot knife through butter", she said.

"We're hoping that what now we private at this point is where it ends [in terms of casualties]", said Mr Evans. He could not provide an update on the condition of the five people injured in the collapse.

The crane also crushed a portion of a local parking garage. "It went from the fifth floor to, from what I can tell, the third floor", she said.

Damage is being reported throughout North Texas, especially in Dallas, as severe storms moved through the area.

The crane fell after the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm alert for the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area until 7 p.m. local time on Sunday, warning of heavy rain and damaging gusts.

A meteorologist said in the CNN, by the Region, a storm with wind pulled at speeds of more than 110 kilometers per hour.

CNN reported that more than 227,000 customers in the Metroplex are without power after the powerful storm swept through Sunday with winds greater than 70 miles per hour.
