Kellen Winslow Jr. Found Guilty of Raping 58-Year-Old Homeless Woman

He was also found guilty of indecent exposure for exposing himself to a 58-year-old woman who was gardening in her front hard and lewd conduct related to an incident where he made sexual advances toward a 78-year-old woman in a health club.

The North County jury in Vista, California, near San Diego, which has been deliberating since last week, reached verdicts on four of 12 counts filed against the former Hurricanes star.

Winslow was also found guilty of indecent exposure toward the woman and of lewd conduct.

Winslow's defense attorney, Marc Carlos, countered in his closing argument by urging the jurors to consider each alleged victim's case individually and not collectively under the notion that smoke means fire.

All five women testified at the trial.

While Winslow was out on bail and awaiting trial, a 77-year-old woman reported that he had committed lewd acts in front of her at a gym in February.

Defence attorneys pointed out inconsistencies in the accusers' testimonies and argued the women invented the allegations to prey on the wealth of Winslow.

Winslow, who grew up in San Diego and is the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end Kellen Winslow, enrolled at the University of Miami in 2001 and was Jeremy Shockey's backup on the Hurricanes' national championship team that season.

The homeless woman in Encinitas, who was 58 at the time, testified that he befriended her and attacked her next to his vehicle after inviting her for a coffee in May 2018.

That summer, a 57-year-old woman said he exposed himself to her while she tended to her garden. The jury found him guilty of that charge Monday. A third woman came forward alleging that Winslow raped her while she was unconscious some 15 years ago. She said she passed out at a party in a San Diego suburb and woke up to find Winslow assaulting her. The remaining charges include more rape charges, forcible sodomy and kidnapping, among others, according to a CNN report published Monday.

Deliberations are set to continue Tuesday. "Additionally, how we should follow the law and not what we think the law means". The judge instructed the jurors to take as much time as they need to come to verdicts on the remaining counts.

But prosecutor Dan Owens said evidence includes Global Positioning System locations showing Winslow's presence where victims say they encountered him and DNA tests showing traces of his semen on blood-stained trousers from one victim.
