The Jets replaced the decision-making duo with head coach Adam Gase, naming the recently hired head man the interim GM.

The team said it will start looking for a new general manager immediately, but head coach Adam Gase will assume interim duties until a hire is made.

Jets CEO Christopher Johnson said in a statement he told Maccagnan he was being relieved of his duties in the morning.

NY made the borderline shocking announcement Tuesday that it fired general manager Mike Maccagnan as well as VP of player personnel Brian Heimerdinger. That connection could help serve as his next pro launching point, though Douglas has been rumored as the favorite to be the next Jets general manager even prior to Maccagnan's official ouster Wednesday.

The New York Jets are shaking things up in the front office and it'll likely have an impact on things in Philadelphia.

And then there's this: According to New York Daily News reporter Manish Mehta, Gase - the head coach and now acting GM, mind you - didn't want the team to sign Bell to the four-year, $52.5 million contract inked in March. Maccagnan was hired in 2015, days before the franchise hired Gase's predecessor, Todd Bowles.

Lee was a 2016 first-round pick by the Jets, taken 20th overall, and played three underwhelming seasons in Gotham. He and the Jets were active in free agency before that, handing out long-term deals to running back Le'Veon Bell and linebacker C.J.

Reports indicate Gase is interested in bringing in Eagles vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas, with whom he worked in Chicago.
