Trump may provoke U.S. politicians to impeach him, says senior Democrat

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., told ABC's George Stephanopoulos on Sunday that he worries American democracy won't be able to survive four more years of President Donald Trump's divisive behavior and lack of respect for the rule of law. McGahn's view was not disclosed in the report.

Kerry W. Kircher, who previously served as House counsel for the GOP, disagreed, saying, White House intransigence marks "a complete breakdown and complete obstruction of Congress's role".

Many congressional committees are continuing their own investigations following the close of Mueller's, which Trump says had completely exonerated him from all crimes related to Russian meddling in the 2016 elections.

Schiff, who is now the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, has continued to harass the Trump administration with dozens of subpoenas, which Trump officials have largely ignored.

The president also tweeted about the House Judiciary Committee's vote to hold Barr in contempt of Congress, which Trump quoted Fitton describing as "just another abuse of power in a long series of abuses of power by the Democrats". "He was all for President Obama using executive privilege and now he's against this president". In several cases, the special counsel wrote, there was substantial evidence that the president sought to obstruct the probe, including in his interactions with McGahn.

House Democrats had hoped Mueller would come to Capitol Hill to clarify the details in his report as early as Wednesday, but no appointment has been set. Trump said he never said the word "fire", which McGahn agreed was true, but McGahn said he strongly believed the president's intentions and actions indicated he wanted Mueller removed.
