Gabon forward Aubameyang scored twice for Arsenal at Burnley to join Salah and his Liverpool teammate Mane, who netted a final-day double against Wolves, on 22 goals for the Premier League season.

Salah has mustered four goals in 11 appearances in the Champions League this season. He then added a third in a row after bagging a league-high 25 goals in his debut season with Newcastle in 1996/97.

Liverpool missed winning their first title in 29 years by one point after Manchester City clinched the crown with a 4-1 comeback win over Brighton.

"This game he showed what he does when he is at his best", he said.

City finished first with 98 points from 38 games, while second-placed Liverpool fell agonizingly short of the title themselves, at 97 points from 38 matches.

He said he didn't support a re-run of the vote "at this stage". "They have won since 1994 and it will happen again". Mmusi Maimane, leader of the main opposition party Democratic Alliance, cast his vote in Dobsonville in Soweto.

All in all, Salah has had another fantastic year in the Premier League, and while it was not good enough for another Team of the Year selection, it was good enough to share one-third of the golden boot with teammate Sadio Mane and fellow African global Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

If he does claim the Golden Boot, he will be the sixth player to win it in successive years, after Alan Shearer, Michael Owen, Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie and Harry Kane. He shared the honor with teammate Sadio Mane and Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Liverpool and Arsenal have final season fixtures in continental competitions.
