Richard Burr for his committee's subpoena of President Donald Trump's son, a move that suggested the Russian Federation investigation is not "case closed" as some in the party insist.

The sources said Trump Jr is expected to cite his Fifth Amendment constitutional right to avoid self-incrimination, a day after reports that the Republican-led panel had issued what is the first publicly known subpoena for a member of the president's family.

Led by Republican chairman Richard Burr, the intelligence panel is the only committee in the Republican-controlled Senate that has been conducting a bipartisan investigation into allegations of Russian interference in US politics. Multiple Republicans had coalesced around Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's talking point of "case closed" in recent days, but now Democrats can argue that even members of the President's own party don't agree that all Russian Federation inquiries should end immediately.

"Frankly for my son, after being exonerated, to now get a subpoena to go again and speak again after close to 20 hours of telling everybody that would listen about a nothing meeting, yeah, I'm surprised", Trump told reporters at the White House.

Mexican authorities are searching for a private plane that went missing while flying over the northern state of Coahuila. Mexican local media actually published a photograph which appeared to show the burnt wreckage of the plane.

Discussions between the Republican-led panel and Trump Jr. about his possible testimony have been going on for months, according to the sources, who asked not to be named given the panel's ongoing probe. I was very surprised to see my son-my son is a good person, he works hard. Trump also said he had already testified for a "massive amount of time".

Chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said Thursday he was not given a heads-up. Mark Warner, have worked closely together on the probe and have often won praise from the panel's membership, and also from McConnell, throughout.

The panel's investigation, led by Burr, has been running for more than two years, and the committee has interviewed numerous same witnesses who spoke to special counsel Robert Mueller's team.

It's also the first real sign of any dissention among members of the committee, who have worked together quietly since the panel's Russian Federation investigation began in early 2017. "He said he was only peripherally aware of the negotiations in Moscow for Trump Tower there when apparently he was briefed extensively". He called Mueller's report "the Bible" and that "they say he did nothing wrong".
