Microsoft announces new AI and blockchain services

Microsoft's Azure cloud platform will support Quorum, the enterprise-variant of Ethereum blockchain.

"It integrates with a rich set of open-source tools while also supporting confidential transactions - something our enterprise customers require", he added, noting that Microsoft has worked closely with the financial services giant to develop the integration.

A week ahead of its Build developer conference in Seattle, Microsoft is detailing progress and improvements to its Azure platform.

Under the new banner are other new services such as Personaliser, which uses reinforcement learning to provide users with specific recommendations to help them make quicker and more efficient decisions. This will let customers apply Cognitive Services algorithms for new insights into their (structured or unstructured) content.

As part of the wider introductions, the company launched its HoloLens 2 Development Edition, with a range of systems for developers so that can build and run mixed-reality experiences across a range of devices.

Microsoft also announced that Azure Search is getting the AI treatment with new "cognitive search" capabilities.

In the future, J.P. Morgan and Microsoft will continue to address common enterprise, independent software vendor and developer needs for building and deploying blockchain applications on Quorum in the cloud. This is a good sign as there are multiple benefits of the blockchain network beyond cryptocurrency.

"Quorum customers like Starbucks, Louis Vuitton, and our own Xbox Finance team can now use Azure Blockchain Service to quickly expand their networks with lower costs, shifting their focus from infrastructure management to application development and business logic", Russinovich said. He explains that with a few simple clicks, users can create and deploy a permissioned blockchain network and manage consortium policies using an intuitive interface in the Azure Portal.

The company had previewed a number of new services and tools expanding Microsoft's cloud-based AI capabilities for developers and data scientists. Today we're delivering innovative Azure services for developers to build the next generation of apps.

Microsoft also announced that JP Morgan's Ethereum platform, Quorum, will be the first ledger available in Azure Blockchain Service.
