Following up on Azar's comments, CDC Director Robert Redfield, M.D., joined the briefing to provide additional details on measles cases reported to date. The company, along with co-developer Innoviva Inc, said the once-daily inhaler improved lung function in patients with uncontrolled asthma, compared to its other medicine Relvar/Breo Ellipta.

Overall, said Redfield, about 94% of school-age children who entered kindergarten in 2017 had received the recommended two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine.

As of April 28, NY health officials report that 21,284 doses of the MMR vaccine have been administered to people who are under 19 years old in Williamsburg and Borough Park since October. The most apparent symptom from measles comes a few days later, with small blisters inside the lining of the mouth and red spots on the face and trunk.

Adults who have only had one dose of the vaccine are still protected from the viral infection, but at a slightly lower rate. "Measles can be extremely serious, so make sure you and your friends are protected".

In an exclusive interview, Contagion® spoke with Aaron E. Glatt, MD, chairman of the Department of Medicine and a hospital epidemiologist at South Nassau Communities Hospital, who is also an Orthodox rabbi in 2 NY congregations and an active member of the Infectious Disease Society of America.

"Two doses of measles vaccine are about 97 percent effective in preventing measles", said state epidemiologist Dr. Christina Tan. "Likewise, the second dose was previously not recommended to be given till 4-6 years of age". Adults who are at high-risk for exposure, including college students and global travelers, are advised to get two doses. The most vulnerable to contracting the measles and having extremely severe reactions are babies, pregnant women, the elderly, and the immunocompromised.
