Sterling slumbers on despite strong United Kingdom retail sales

The number of temporary employees in the United Kingdom fell by 0.9% on a seasonally adjusted basis to a total of 1.54 million in the three-month period from December 2018 through to February 2019 when compared to the same period a year ago, according to the Office for National Statistics. Against the euro, sterling extended its losses and hit the day's low of 86.81 pence, down 0.3 percent.

Coming up later this afternoon will be the release of Canada's own retail sales figures, potentially denting the Pound Canadian Dollar (GBP/CAD) exchange rate if Canadian sales growth rebounded in line with expectations.

In terms of state inflation profile, the report said price increases were highest in Kebbi (14.65 percent), Zamfara (13.15 percent) and Taraba (12.98 percent), while Kwara (9.84 percent), Cross River (9.66 percent) and Delta (9.61 percent) recorded the slowest rise in headline year-on-year inflation.

That was way above all forecasts in a Reuters poll of economists.
