The owner of a Colorado gun shop said he sold the shotgun to Sol Pais, the woman behind the school threats in the Denver metro area that led to a massive manhunt.

Mount Evans is popular recreation area about 60 miles southwest of Denver. Another classmate, 17-year-old Drew Burnstine, described Pais as quiet and smart. The FBI described her "extremely risky". "Maybe she has a mental problem".

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said after receiving word that the hunt was over that he and all Colorado parents are "hugging their children a little tighter".

"She has made some concerning comments in the past", Phillips said. One senior told police she wore dark, baggy clothes that hung off her body.

Pais was said to be obsessed with the 1999 school shooting of students and teachers at the high school in Littleton, near Denver, which killed 13.

Boulder Valley School District Superintendent Rob Anderson said the decision to close school Wednesday was an easy choice among Denver-area superintendents. "It was much more reassuring than it was 20 years ago", he said on Wednesday.

Police searched her home in the nearby city of Surfside. Out-of-state residents who are at least 18 can legally buy shotguns in Colorado.

The Democratic governor asked people to share information about Pais and report information to authorities. More than 400,000 students were impacted, adding to what was already a stressful week for the community: the 20th anniversary of the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School is on Saturday. Then law enforcement later confirmed that she was dead. In Denver public schools alone, there have been 22 lockdowns and 294 lockouts over the past two academic years, according to school data cited by the Denver Post.

Police are searching her home in the nearby city Surfside and have been seen removing papers from the home. Pais was considered "armed and risky", authorities said. Authorities said no specific school was mentioned as a target.

In late March, Pais wrote on the website of the National Gun Forum, asking how she could acquire a weapon in Colorado if she lived in another state.

"I was really scared", said student Isabella Pirena.

Multiple law enforcement agencies from local sheriffs to the Federal Bureau of Investigation unleashed a manhunt for the 18-year-old Pais, of Surfside, Florida. She was last seen near Columbine dressed in a black T-shirt, camouflage trousers and black boots.

A Florida woman who set off a massive manhunt throughout Colorado has reportedly been found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, following threats she made that forced the closure of nearly 20 school districts in the state.

Authorities said she did not threaten a specific school.

The FBI had said Pais was "armed and dangerous" and believed to be somewhere in Colorado after making "credible" threats days before the 20th anniversary of the Columbine High massacre that ushered in the modern era of mass shootings at U.S. schools.
