As Chicago saw its warmest day in more than six months, the National Weather Service warned of the possibility of severe thunderstorms in the far northwest suburbs, a prelude to another round of storms possible overnight, mostly south of Interstate 80.

The southern line of storms will consist of storms that develop along the dry-line and will likely be severe.

Large hail and damaging winds will be the primary threats as severe storms are expected to move across the Kansas City metro area this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

Strong winds are possible, along with the risk of a few tornadoes. Meanwhile, a strong push of southern warmth ahead of the storm will send temperatures well into the 80s across our region on Thursday afternoon.

The storm system slows down on Friday as it approaches the East Coast with more severe weather. A few isolated storms and some showers may develop prior to that, but the main wave of storms happens between 6 PM and 12 AM. There will be the potential for rotating storms, so isolated tornadoes can not be ruled out. Some areas could see 2 to 4 inches of rain, and even more locally.

Late in the evening, there's a chance of thunderstorms moving into the area, mostly south of I-80, according to the weather service.

A second round of storms is also possible after 10 p.m. Wednesday that could linger into the early-morning hours.
