A deadly storm system now threatens 90 million people with destructive weather

Davis said rotating winds were spotted on weather radar in the Philadelphia area early this morning, prompting the weather service to issue a rare tornado warning for most of Philadelphia County, as well as parts of Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem counties in New Jersey from 3:19 a.m. through 3:45 a.m.

A tornado that struck Franklin, Texas, on Saturday, led to the death of two children, also injuring at least dozen people and causing damage in the eastern part of the state.

Soaking rains could snarl the Monday morning commute on the East Coast before the storm moves off to sea.

Clearing is expected to come by the evening with cooler temperatures in the lower 40s.

Two people were hospitalized for injuries not thought to be life-threatening, while others were treated at the scene for minor injuries, Yezak said.

The tree "flattened the vehicle like a pancake", said Captain Alton Lenderman of the Angelina County Sheriff's Office. The center said it expects the threat of severe weather to increase throughout the day. Franklin is about 125 miles (200 kilometres) south of Dallas.
