Pete Buttigieg (pronounced Boot-edge-edge) is the 37-year-old mayor of South Bend Indiana, a Veteran of the war in Afghanistan, a Rhodes Scholar, Harvard graduate, a devout Christian and has been married to his husband, Chasten, for two years.

The 37-year-old Midwestern military veteran, Rhodes scholar and current mayor of South Bend, Indiana, would be the youngest and first openly gay president in U.S. history.

Recent surveys of Democrats in key primary states like Iowa, New Hampshire, and SC show Buttigieg in third place behind Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden, who's yet to officially announce. Rain and wind meant they had to change plans, but Buttigieg said there is a silver lining in the change.

According to a Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday, half of the Democrats asked, said the allegations against Biden would not make them change their votes.

The hulking, dilapidated factory loomed over the city for much of the past 60 years as what Buttigieg called a daily reminder of South Bend's city's past.

"He made a very big impression on, I think, everyone". "This radical scheme would be serious bad news for America's hospital industry", McConnell told the conference.

People lined up in the rain to buy "Pete 2020" T-shirts, caps and buttons. Before Buttigieg came onstage, attendees gasped when the campaign started playing Barbra Streisand's "Don't Rain on My Parade", then started laughing and singing along to the now-iconic show tune. "I don't have a problem with religion", he told Ellen DeGeneres.

It has been a whirlwind few weeks for Buttigieg: The mayor has crisscrossed the country looking to seize on the boost he received from a well-reviewed CNN town hall in early March, hopscotching between early nominating states and a string of fundraisers in Democratic strongholds like San Francisco, Chicago and NY.

Now he's polling third in two crucial early states and reported more than US$7 million in donations in the first quarter.

On Sunday in soggy, cold South Bend, supporters packed the old, partially remodeled Studebaker building on the south edge of Indiana's fourth-largest city, chanting "Let's go, Pete!"

Pointing to South Bend's crime and urban blight, Republicans sought to tarnish Buttigieg's image as mayor.
