Microsoft Changes Course on Forced Windows 10 Feature Updates

A beta version of this Game bar update is now available to members of the Xbox Insider Program. Administrators may pause updates for a period of up to 35 days separated into chunks of seven days at a time.

What may be even more interesting from a user's and administrator's point of view is that the company announced a major change in regards to feature updates.

We'll also start to see the migration to the Chromium version of Edge in this build, though it's not clear if there will be a Preview available at launch.

WhatsApp on Wednesday announced a major change in its privacy settings , allowing users to decide who can add them to groups . Selection of Nobody doesn't mean that you would not be able to join any group , though it is possible via private invitation.

The current Active Hours feature in Windows 10, which permits users to declare when they don't want to get an update, will have a new option to automatically adjust those hours based on the user's "device-specific usage patterns". You'll need to have the Spotify app installed as well, but the new widget allows for control of playback while gaming. The Windows 10 version 1809 feature release went terribly wrong which delayed the full rollout of the new version of Windows 10.

Microsoft is making an exception for older devices, however.

In addition to providing direct, convenient access to Spotify, the new beta features also include the ability to directly transform a game screenshot into a meme, according to Microsoft. The first of the new features being tested at the moment is a Spotify widget, which allows players to control their music and podcasts as long as they have the Spotify app installed. In the announcement, it was mentioned that Extended ability to pause updates for both feature and monthly updates.

And that's the problem with Windows 10 and that constant fixing of what was not broken, that actually broke things more. "By carefully studying data from this expanded population and for this additional time, we will gain increased confidence in Windows quality before offering it to a broader audience later in May", Microsoft adds. Consequently, it's possible for them to "defer past the end of a service date". So Microsoft must have some plan for testing it.
