Mourinho: Perfect reunion for Zidane and Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho was Florentino Perez's first choice as Real Madrid head coach, and not Zinedine Zidane, according to former club president Roman Calderon.

Bale has been booed by home supporters this season, although his agent has insisted the 29-year-old wants to "play all his career" at the club.

Asked whether he would like to coach France global Mbappe at some point, Zidane said: "Like with all good players, I would love to".

On Friday Solskjaer was asked about links to Bale and while he refused to be drawn on the winger specifically, United's caretaker manager insisted that the club will consider any player who will add something new to their squad.

"He left [Real Madrid] a lot of problems and I think he would have been another problem to the ones we already have if he had come".

Zidane then quickly guided the team to Champions League glory, but this time he will be without the club's all-time top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo. "They're like defining moments", he said.

"As a player he was awesome, as a coach he has won everything".

The final one of his previous stint was last season's Champions League final against Liverpool, which saw him guide Real to the trophy for a third successive year.

"Why would they need to give me an explanation?", Mourinho responded to a question if Real Madrid offered him an explanation after missing the managerial role.
