On Tuesday morning, seven federal agents turned up at Huffman's house with "guns drawn" to arrest her, TMZ reports.

Meanwhile, Lori Loughlin was in Vancouver, Canada when the Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a warrant for her arrest.

A magistrate judge said Tuesday that actress Felicity Huffman - the "Desperate Housewives" star - can be released on $250,000 bail in a case in which she is accused of paying a bribe to secure her daughter's admission to college, AP reported.

The documents also allege that Lori Laughlin and her husband Mission Giannulli agreed to pay a bribe of $500,000 to help their two children pass entrance exams for the University of Southern California.

The parents were then advised to choose one of two test centres that Singer's company said it had control over: one in Houston, Texas, and the other in West Hollywood, California.

U.S. actress Lori Loughlin appeared in federal court in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday in connection with a massive college admissions scam involving other celebrities and top industry CEOs.

Among the alleged offences: six-figure bribes paid to college athletic coaches to vouch for applicants who may not have even competed in those sports, the use of stand-ins to take the all-important SAT and ACT entrance exams, and payments directed to test administrators to correct answers before submission.

Ms Loughlin is accused of paying the mastermind of the scheme, William "Rick" Singer, $US500,000 to help both of her daughters cheat their way into USC by bribing an athletics official at the school to pretend the girls were gifted rowers.

Chelsea star admits concern over Eden Hazard’s future
Jose Mourinho says Zinedine Zidane returning to Real Madrid is "perfect", insisting he is not disappointed about being overlooked. And the concern about the Belgian's future has crept into the training ground, with one Chelsea star declaring his worry.

Felicity Huffman's husband, William H. Macy, who has not been indicted in the bribery scheme (yet), starred in nine seasons of the Showtime series Shameless.

Huffman and Giannulli are required to appear for arraignment in a Boston courthouse on March 29.

Fuller House star Lori Loughlin is among the defendants.

The status of Loughlin's other Hallmark Channel project, When Calls The Heart, is also unclear.

In many cases, the students were not aware that their parents had arranged for the cheating, prosecutors said, although in other cases they knowingly took part.

"Every student deserves to be considered on their individual merits when applying to college, and it's disgraceful to see anyone breaking the law to give their children an advantage over others", US Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said in a statement Wednesday.

Ms Huffman was one of several charged who appeared in court on Tuesday before being released on bail.

"Very proud of my honest, hardworking sons", actor Rob Lowe tweeted, alongside a throwback photo that his 24-year-old son, John, shared upon graduating from Stanford University, while Lena Dunham added: "All the people involved in this college scam should have gathered their money and started a small elite college where Lori Loughlin teaches a class on smiling..."
