Beto O'Rourke will seek 2020 Democratic presidential nomination

O'Rourke's entry is already reverberating around the crowded field of Democratic presidential hopefuls.

Should he parlay a 2018 Senate defeat into a successful 2020 White House campaign, O'Rourke would be the first USA politician to do so since Abraham Lincoln lost his Senate bid to Stephen Douglas in IL in 1858, then was elected president two years later.

He was so successful in mobilizing Democrat voters that even though he lost his race, Democratic candidates swept almost every judicial seat in Houston's Harris County (the most populous county in the state) and flipped a number of other important state appellate courts, deeply changing the state's judicial landscape.

"I would. It's not an equitable, fair, just system right now - the guarantees and safeguards against wrongful prosecution, the disproportionate number of people of color who comprise our criminal justice system", O'Rourke said.

He said that "the most pressing, the most urgent, the most existential challenge of them all is climate. It's the only way I know to meet that challenge".

Now O'Rourke must prove whether the energy he brought to the Texas campaign will resonate on a much larger stage. "We're going to make a stand to ensure that we live up to our promise, to our potential, to our objective as a country". "That is the way that we make our communities and our country safe", O'Rourke said at the event. O'Rourke lost to Cruz by a mere 2.6 percentage points.

Trump's 2020 budget proposal: 5 healthcare takeaways
Opportunity Scholarship program and creating a $5 billion federal tax credit proposal - are part of other departments' budgets. Some economists, though, say the bump from the tax cuts is waning, and they project slower economic expansion in coming years.

Starting with the Iowa caucuses next year, the Democrat who amasses the majority of delegates nationwide in a series of contests will be nominated at the party's convention in Milwaukee in the summer, and will likely face Trump in November's general election.

Trump took questions from the Oval Office during his meeting with Irish prime minister Leo Varadkar, and he was asked for his thoughts on O'Rourke's campaign announcement.

Seated on a couch next to his wife, O'Rourke announced, "Amy and I are happy to share with you that I am running to serve you as the next president of the United States of America". He acknowledged at a town hall shortly after the election that he was weighing a presidential bid. Former Vice President Joe Biden is also expected to announce his intentions soon. And that, you'd like to think, is normally how things work.

O'Rourke refused support from outside political groups and shunned pollsters during his Senate campaign.

"At this moment of maximum peril and maximum potential let's show ourselves and those who will succeed us in this great country just who we are and what we can do".
