There was actually a stretch of six straight games in the second half of last season that Smith provided at least one sack or turnover-causing play on third down. He totaled 119 tackles and 18.5 sacks.

While the Colts have been expectedly quiet during the initial wave of free agency, Smith was one of the pass rushers Indy was thought to be high on given his fit, versatility and likely price in the market.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers #12 of the Green Bay Packers is sacked for a safety by defensive end Preston Smith #94 of the Washington Redskins in the first quarter during the NFC Wild Card Playoff game at FedExField on January 10, 2016 in Landover, Maryland. Smith only had four sacks previous year, but is a great run defender and will be a significant contributor to what is now a scary pass rush. After moving veteran cornerback Tramon Williams to free safety last season due to trading away Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Amos is a definite upgrade.

Two of the biggest signings this off season is expected to be Nick Foles to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Antonio Brown to the Oakland Raiders. Smith gives them a trio of impactful players.

Amos agreed to a $37 million, four-year contract, according to a person with knowledge of the move.

How juicy! Amos had been with the Bears for the last four seasons, getting taken out of Penn State in the 2015 NFL Draft. If Pettine can keep Smith producing disruption on the money down for the Packers defense, he'll be worth all that money.
