HBO have been promising for a long time now that Game of Thrones Season 8, which is only six episodes, would feature supersized instalments to go out with a bang - and now those runtimes have been officially revealed.

The eighth and final season, which will have six episodes, will kick off with two relatively normal hours.

While the first half of the season will have fairly traditional runtimes for Game of Thrones, the back half is stuffed with lengthier episodes, very almost approaching feature-length runtimes. I'm pretty sure HBO never put any kind of limitations on how long episodes should be and we have actually had a longer episode already in Season 7.

The revealed runtimes differ somewhat from 2018 runtime hints, such as series' director David Nutter's description: "Season 8 episodes will all, I think, be longer than 60 minutes".

Game of Thrones Season 8 will even witness several much-awaited reunions between the cast and deadly war ever seen in the world of television. The longest episodes will be seven and eight, which will have a runtime of about 80 minutes.

Total, the runtimes equal six hours and 50 minutes, which Newsweek pointed out is still shorter than the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

While some may be disappointed that the whole season won't have movie-length episodes, there's no cause to pad out the length simply because it's the show's last season.

For those who prefer a classic black runner, there's a Night Watch option, as well as a dark-grey Stark option with a "Winter is coming" heel tab. The premiere, which launches on April 14th, looks to clock in at fifty-four minutes.
