'I can't breathe': Serena Williams RETIRES from Indian Wells against Garbine Muguruza

Following up on a strong showing Friday against Victoria Azarenka, the 23-time Grand Slam victor took a 3-0 lead over Muguruza, but lost the next six games and the first set.

The first Murguruza victory was in the second round of the French Open in 2014, when the Spaniard took out Williams 6-2, 6-2.

"We've played many times and it is always super tough and super exciting".

"Yeah, at the end of the first set, I felt that maybe she wasn't feeling well", Muguruza said, via USA Today.

Williams left the court to warm applause, yet he ongoing fitness issues must be concerning the tennis legend who has struggled to hit top form since returning to the court following the birth of her first child a year ago.

"By the score, it might have looked like I started well, but I was not feeling at all well physically", Williams said.

Although he isn't the quickest or most explosive player at the position, Winston plays hard and smart at both ends of the court. All five MI starters scored in double figures in that game, with freshman Ignas Brazdeikis leading the way with 21 points.

"I had to adapt a little bit my position in the court, the way I was hitting, and it took me a few games to kind of do it", Muguruza said.

Kozlova led 6-5 and was within two points of winning the first set before Halep forced a tiebreaker in their first meeting. That year she reached the semifinals before withdrawing against Simona Halep. Yeah, I think I played well one set.

Halep next faces 61st-ranked Czech Marketa Vondrousova, who followed up her win over 2018 finalist Daria Kasatkina with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over 22nd seed Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia.
