CNN reported a Florida mother and pediatrician, Free Hess, said she found the clips on YouTube and YouTube Kids in July. The mother successfully launched a push to get the video removed from the "kid-friendly" website. In the middle of the video, the cartoon cut to a clip of a man miming cutting his wrist and saying: "Remember kids, sideways for attention, longways for results".

Following complaints more than a year ago, Youtube said it had taken steps to add more moderation and step up enforcement of guidelines for videos aimed at children.

A mother's disturbing discovery on YouTube Kids has her issuing a warning to parents. As The Post's Elizabeth Dwoskin reported last month, YouTube announced that it was rebuilding its recommendation algorithm to prevent it from prompting videos that include conspiracy theories and other bogus information, though the videos would remain on the site. However, more youths survive suicide attempts than die. According to Yahoo News, she was playing what she thought was "a simple, innocent cartoon" for her son but it was much more than that. "I think videos like this put them at risk".

Hess said she also found videos glorifying not only suicide but sexual exploitation and abuse, human trafficking, gun violence and domestic violence.

The charity is urging the United Kingdom government to crack down on social networks by introducing a new law that forces them to keep children safe.

Northcott Community Special School took to Twitter to make parents aware of the hack. One video, inspired by the popular "Minecraft" video game, even depicted a school shooting.

"So anything that's not curated by the parent, we can not just assume they are not going to be viewing things that are 100 percent safe", said Rogers-Wood. "One suggested video was an hours-long lecture by Icke in which he claims that aliens built the pyramids, that the planet is run by reptile-human hybrids, that Freemasons engage in human sacrifice, that the assassination of President Kennedy was planned by the U.S. government, and that humans would evolve in 2012".
