Snow Possible Overnight Before Bigger Storm Arrives Tuesday

Q13 morning meteorologist M.J. McDermott says if the temperatures do drop and the snow turns to freezing rain, road conditions could be more risky than a snow-only event.

Winter storm watches are issued when multiple types of several winter weather are expected to occur together. A coating of ice will be possible as well.

Northern suburbs around and south of M-59 will get an even mixture of ice and snow Monday night into Tuesday morning. The commutes for both Tuesday morning and Tuesday evening may be a messy ride. This could impact the Monday morning commute as residents head back to work.

The storm will likely to affect travel Tuesday afternoon and evening, with snow expected after 1 p.m. and a possible accumulation of 2 to 4 inches in Boston, forecasters said.

No concerns through the day today as the storm will be still organizing in the Southern Plains, but the leading edge of snow is forecast to track north and into the area between 9 PM and midnight tonight.

Low pressure passes over the area Tuesday with a scattered icy mix of precipitation.

Nasa's data was compiled by 6,300 weather stations around the world and was compared against information stretching back to 1880. NOAA notes that weather dynamics affect regional temperatures, so not every region experienced the same amount of warming.

"This is a ideal morning to bundle up and play in the snow, but stay off the roads if possible", Gov. Jay Inslee wrote on Twitter.

We are now entering the relative "lull" period of this storm system.

Douglas and Burnett counties remain under a winter storm watch, as does Pine County in Minnesota.

There is a winter weather advisory in effect for parts of Northeast Ohio. Skies will become mostly sunny on Wednesday behind this storm with temperatures in the mid-20s. The commutes for Tuesday morning and Tuesday evening will nearly certainly be a messy ride.

At the same time the snow is falling, warmer air will be moving northward at high levels of the atmosphere, changing the snow to sleet. This winter, it seems we just can't get a classic snowstorm in here, there's always a mix!

Besides the snow, the region also has been blanketed by bitterly cold temperatures.
