Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist undergoes open heart surgery

Ex Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham is recovering from a life-saving open heart surgery that did damage his vocal cords, according to the musician's wife. He is now recuperating at home and... "While it is unclear if the damage is permanent, we are hopeful it is not", she writes.

It is not now clear if the vocal damage will be permanent or not.

Buckingham, 69, was sacked from the British-American band a year ago.

"This past year has been a very stressful and hard year for our family to say the least", Mrs Buckingham said in her social media post. "But despite all of this, our gratitude for life trumps all obstacles we have faced at this moment". "As does he. He looks forward to recovery and putting this behind him", she added.

Lindsey Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 with his then-girlfriend, Stevie Nicks.

She said her husband's family has a history of heart issues. Buckingham later sued Fleetwood Mac for breach of contact, and said in December the civil lawsuit had been settled out of court. Buckingham filed a civil suit, which he said was settled out of court late past year for undisclosed terms.

"We are saddened by this news", the group tweeted. "We are hopeful for his speedy recovery".
