He will now go to the full Senate, where he needs a simple majority to be confirmed.

In a statement Thursday afternoon, Sen.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), the Judiciary Committee's highest-ranking Democrat, said Thursday she felt the document was "disqualifying" for Barr.

"I believe it is in the best interest of everyone the President, Congress, and, most importantly, the American people - that this matter be resolved by allowing the Special Counsel to complete his work", Barr said. "I was very impressed with our conversation", Sullivan's statement said in part.

Once the committee approves the nomination Thursday, it will head to the full Senate, where Barr is expected to be confirmed.

Barr was nominated by President Donald Trump in December to replace former Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Democrats said they were particularly concerned that Barr would not specifically commit to letting the public see whatever report results from the special-counsel investigation into President Trump's campaign.

Opponents have also cited a memo Barr wrote to the Justice Department before his nomination in which he criticized Mueller's investigation for the way it was presumably looking into whether Trump had obstructed justice.

In his confirmation hearings, Barr said he had no criticisms of the Russian Federation probe "at all" despite his previous writings.

Barr said he also "weighed in repeatedly" to "complain" about the DOJ prosecuting Democratic. Sen. Investigators have examined key episodes such as Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey and Trump's fury over Sessions' recusal.

That view has alarmed Democrats, especially since the obstruction inquiry has been central to Mueller's overall investigation.

"At a time when our shared principles of equal protection and civil rights for all are under assault, we need an Attorney General who will rise to the challenge of defending them".

All 12 Republicans on the panel voted for Barr, while all 10 Democrats voted against him. "I don't know what Bob Mueller is writing", Barr said at his hearing last month. Trump calls the probe a "witch hunt".

Barr, though, will be inheriting the Justice Department at one of the most politically charged periods in its history, as special counsel Robert S. Mueller III's investigation seems to be nearing its end.
