Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren officially launches her 2020 bid for the White House.

Warren announced her campaign in her home state of MA at a mill site where largely immigrant factory workers went on strike about 100 years ago, a fitting forum for the longtime consumer advocate to advance her platform.

Warren was introduced on Saturday by Representative Joe Kennedy III, grandson of former U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and part of the new generation of the most prominent Democratic family in MA and arguably the U.S.

"We are here to say enough is enough", said Warren in her remarks.

The Massachusetts senator revealed on New Years Eve that she was forming an exploratory committee to test the waters for her likely presidential run.

"Lawrence has a history of working people coming together to make change, where the fight was hard, the battle was uphill, and where a group of women led the charge for all of us", Warren said in a video promoting her announcement.

Rawding added that she's thrilled Warren chose Lawrence to launch her 2020 Democratic presidential run, particularly in wake of the deadly September gas explosions that impacted the city and surrounding communities.

She has been forced to apologise for claiming on several occasions in her early political career that she was of Native American descent.

The campaign launch comes at a challenging moment for Warren. "Separating a momma from a baby does not make this country safer", Warren said in an interview with CNN last summer, a message she has returned to during her time on the campaign trail.

Ms Warren's crossover into politics began with her opposing what turned into a 2005 act limiting bankruptcy access for individuals.

Warren also apologized Wednesday afternoon for claiming she was of "American Indian" origin in a Texas Bar registration card from 1986.

"It's about dealing with extreme concentrations of wealth", said Stephanie Kelton, a professor at Stony Brook University in NY and former senior economic adviser to the campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders, the Vermont independent who's considering another run for the Democratic nomination. "This go-around, Warren needs to deal with the issue now, rather than in October 2020".

That speculation hit a fever pitch just months ahead of her U.S. Senate re-election, when the Democrat told supporters at a Holyoke town hall that she would consider running for president after the 2018 midterms. "I'm not taking applications from billionaires who want to run a super PAC on my behalf".

She called President Donald Trump a "product of a rigged system that props up the rich and powerful and kicks dirt on everyone else".

Ms Warren intends to spend Sunday in Iowa, where the lead-off caucuses will be the first test of candidates' viability.

Immediately following her Lawrence announcement, the senator embarked on a seven-state organizing tour to drum up support for her campaign in New Hampshire, Iowa, South Carolina, Georgia, Nevada and California - must-win early primary states.
