The future of Markelle Fultz with the Philadelphia 76ers remains uncertain.

In the final minutes before Thursday's National Basketball Association trade deadline, the Magic acquired former No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz from the Philadelphia 76ers for a relatively low cost: swingman Jonathon Simmons, a protected 2020 first-round pick that originally belonged to another team and a 2019 second-round pick.

The trade marks a fresh start for the former No. 1 overall pick who has struggled with his shot since joining the league and sat most of this season with thoracic outlet syndrome, a mysterious nerve disorder that his agent Raymond Brothers has cited as the source of his shooting woes. The top pick is a top-20 protected first-round pick from the Thunder and a second-round pick via Cleveland. "There's a real possibility he's played his last game with the 76ers".

Of all the proposed changes, the universal DH arguably would be the most significant to the game on the field. Major rule changes could be coming to Major League Baseball as soon as the upcoming season.

Fultz averaged 7.7 points, 3.4 assists and 3.4 rebounds in 33 games as a member of the Sixers. The deal ends Fultz's time with the Sixers after just one-and-a-half seasons with the team. Fultz led all NCAA Division I freshmen and all Pac-12 players in scoring, while ranking sixth overall in the nation. He's averaging 6.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 20.6 minutes over 41 games with the Magic this season.

Eleven-year veteran D.J. Augustin is the current starting point guard in Orlando.

With a cap hit of $8.3 million this season and $9.7 next season, moving Fultz became necessary if the Sixers plan on trying to sign both Jimmy Butler and newly-acquired Tobias Harris this offseason.
