Just a year ago, the San Antonio Spurs were stuck in a storm of uncertainty and panic with the franchise's star mysteriously sidelined along with rotating injuries to key contributors.

San Antonio Spurs' LaMarcus Aldridge (12) stands next to DeMar DeRozan during the second half of the team's NBA basketball game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, in San Antonio. After the Spurs essentially abandoned the 3-pointer after their hot start, White drained a 3 to put San Antonio up 129-126.

The Spurs led by as many as 16 points at one stage but needed a double overtime to have the better of the Thunder.

The Spurs' big man shot 20-for-33 from the field and a flawless 16-for-16 from the free throw line to become the ninth player to break the 50-point threshold this season, along with Golden State Warriors trio Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson. The two Western Conference foes dueled out through four quarters and two overtimes in what looked to be a Heavyweight boxing match-both teams were swinging until the bitter end. The offensive explosion continued in the two extra periods, making the game the highest-scoring contest-not including All-Star games-since the Phoenix Suns beat the New Jersey Nets 161-157 in double overtime. He did it last year, and he's doing it this year, too.

San Antonio won 154-147 in double overtime.

"I'm sure I said it, but not with my mouth", Aldridge said. "That I feel like it should have happened in my career". Sacramento took advantage of Pistons standout Blake Griffin having the night off to rest with an emotional meeting with his former team, the Los Angeles Clippers, set for Saturday afternoon.

George led the Thunder with 30 points, while Grant finished with a career-high 25 points and 12 rebounds before fouling out midway through the second overtime. "I'm all right. I'll be all right", White said. "So, I do it every night". It was San Antonio's most to start a game since it made its first 11 against Sacramento in 2002.

The Spurs were absolutely on fire from 3-point range in this game, though, as they went a flawless 10-for-10 from beyond the arc in the first half.

Aldridge scored eight consecutive points with Adams out, but consecutive 3-pointers by Terrance Ferguson tied it again at 126. White added 23 points for San Antonio.

Thunder: San Antonio's 16 3-pointers tied the most Oklahoma City has allowed this season, which came November 19 at Sacramento.

Entering Thursday's matchup, LaMarcus Aldridge was averaging 19.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 50.4 percent from the field - numbers that will only go up thanks to his career night. Aldridge has 17,758 career points, passing Magic Johnson for 78th on the NBA's all-time scoring list.
