At this point, this does NOT look anywhere as big as the December storm. The snow will be wet and heavy, so make sure and use caution if you'll be shoveling. The snow is expected to fall overnight into Sunday.

Snow intensity will increase Saturday evening, and turn heavy Saturday night into early Sunday. The exception will be across the Southside and far southwest Virginia where a mix of sleet and freezing rain will occur.

During the day Friday, rain will surge northeastward across the southern and central Plains. Beginning in the early hours of Saturday, snow will begin to overspread the state and fall steadily through the early afternoon. Precipitation will stay all snow for areas well west and northwest of Richmond. This will produce storm total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches with locally higher amounts. The rest of the day is partly sunny to mostly cloudy and breezy. Although, flurries remain, roads are dry and no accumulation expected.

Forecasters are calling for snow ranging from 2 to 6 inches, with the highest amounts along and north of Highway 50. Some of the snow will become mixed with rain on Saturday, mainly in areas along and south of I-70. Cities such as Indianapolis can expect similar conditions as St. Louis, but as the storm moves east, the likely snowfall totals will be lower in major metro areas.
