Apple has reportedly reduced new iPhone production - again

Apple's decision was followed by a report later that month that said three key suppliers of iPhone components were warning of weakening demand.

Shobhit Srivasta, a Counterpoint analyst, noted in his blog that the iPhone sales were impacted due to slower sales in the Asia Pacific region, Europe, and the U.S. This bit doesn't involve China and India, where Apple has also struggled to sell their phones. According to them, it was prior to the release of an open letter in which Tim Cook downgraded his company's revenue- and margin-related guidance for the same year's fiscal first quarter.

While Apple's stock has suffered lately from a string of news that has disturbed investor confidence, Sculley said the public does not always get a glimpse at the "big" plans that a company's officers are discussing behind closed doors.

Reuters reports that market research firm Canalys is expecting smartphone shipments in China to fall three percent in 2019 after a 12-percent decline past year.

Apple has been contacted for comment on the Nikkei's reports.

Market research firm Canalys estimated shipments of smartphones fell 12 per cent previous year in China, the world's largest smartphone market. Cupertino probably decided on that initial goal based on previous sales, seeing as it sold 52.21 million units within the same period a year ago.
