Cohen has admitted to offering "hush-money" to two women regarding their affairs with Donald Trump, paying porn star Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal in exchange for their silence regarding their alleged sexual affairs with the president. The investigation has clouded Trump's presidency.

Michael Cohen, US President Donald Trump's former lawyer, is due to testify against his former boss on February 7 in front of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee before beginning a three-year prison term for multiple charges.

Asked by reporters in Texas on Thursday about Cohen's appearance, Trump said he's "not anxious about it at all".

The women have claimed they had affairs with Trump after the real estate mogul married his third wife, Melania.

Giuliani's comments were recorded by Fox News producer Pat Ward.

When asked about the issue of possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, Giuliani told Fox News that "Cohen doesn't know a damn thing about collusion" and added there was "no evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors" in anything that Mueller has made public so far. He was also charged with lying to Congress about plans to build a Trump tower in Moscow in 2016.

The lawyer has cooperated with Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the election since past year, which has prompted anger from the president.

Committee chairman Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) in a statement on Thursday thanked Cohen for agreeing to testify amid special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation.

Cummings said that Oversight Committee, which is also slated to take on increases in prescription drug prices later this month, would announce more information about the hearing in the coming weeks.

"I look forward to having the privilege of being afforded a platform with which to give a full and credible account of the events which have transpired", Cohen said in a statement.

Trump lashed out at Cohen after his sentencing last month, tweeting that his former close confidant only agreed to plead guilty "in order to embarrass the president and get a much reduced prison sentence, which he did". In the plea, Cohen said: "I made these misstatements to be consistent with Individual 1's political messaging and out of loyalty to Individual 1".

Cohen also lied about whether he and Trump, referred to as "Individual 1" in the November court documents, discussed planning a trip to Russian Federation during the campaign.

He promised to continue to cooperate with the special counsel's investigation of Trump's campaign. "I want to be clear on that".

"Mr Cohen has expressed an interest in telling his personal story in open session, and we welcome his testimony before the Committee on Oversight and Reform", he said.

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who is the new chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, told NBC News it would also be essential that "Cohen to answer questions pertaining to the Russian Federation investigation, and we hope to schedule a closed session before our committee in the near future".
