Shortly after Kevin Hart was named the host of the 91st Academy Awards, the comedian faced the consequences of his past homophobic tweets.

He told ABC that he was no longer willing to discuss the anti-gay comments he had made on Twitter in 2010 and 2011, which caused the uproar that led him to step down as host, saying his previous explanations and apology were sufficient.

Hart added that he's apologized back in the late 2000s when the comments first happened and multiple times after.

"Once again, Keivn Hart apologizes for his remarks that hurt members of the LGBTQ community", he said.

"I'm over it. There's no more conversation about it ..." I'm over the moment. if it's accepted, great, and if it's not, it's nothing I can control.

"If you didn't [hear the apology], I don't know what you're looking for", he continued. "I'm a good person, I love to love, if you don't see that,'s a problem with you".

"You're not getting no more of my energy from it", he added. For now, the Academy is scrambling to secure the top talent in the small window of time (six weeks) they have until the show airs on February 24. Many also questioned Hart's framing of the initial backlash to his old tweets as a personal attack on his celebrity rather than a community demanding a respectful apology.

After Philipps said that it would be "super lame" for there to be no host at all, Mandel expressed the issues he has with awards shows in general.

During his interview last week on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which proved to be just as controversial for DeGeneres as it was for Hart, the Jumanji star had said he was "evaluating" his decision to host the awards ceremony.

In the most absurd sequence of events, the Academy allowed Ellen DeGeneres to insert herself into the breach, playing Oscar producer by publicly lobbying for Hart to be reinstated, and saying that organizers were open to the prospect.

As HuffPost notes, Hart appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show January 4. The tweets and jokes-which had been known for quite some time-gained new visibility in the wake of the hosting announcement, and Hart decided he had already apologized and didn't want to do it again (truly the sign of someone who is genuinely remorseful). "So if people choose to continue to let it grow, then do what you got to do".

'You can't change without a understanding of what GROWTH means'.

The last time the Oscars went without a host was in 1989, when the ceremony began with the infamous "Rob Lowe dancing with Snow White" disaster.
