Actor Kevin Spacey is due in court later today to appear before a judge on Nantucket, Massachusetts, over accusations he sexually assaulted a teenager in 2016.

Spacey's court appearance came more than a year after former Boston TV anchor Heather Unruh accused the former "House of Cards" star of sexually assaulting her son in a bar on the MA resort island of Nantucket.

The next court appearance is scheduled for March 4.

In Monday's court session, the judge in the case ordered Spacey "to stay away from his alleged victim", Thys reports.

The judge also granted a request by Spacey's lawyers to preserve the victim's mobile phone data from the six months following the alleged July 7, 2016 assault. Spacey Attorney Alan Jackson said there is data that is "likely exculpatory" for Spacey.

But Spacey's lawyer attempted to use the delayed allegations against the victim, claiming his failure to report the assault immediately damages his credibility. He's accused of groping the son of a former Boston TV anchor in a crowded bar on the small MA island. The man said he fled when Spacey went to the bathroom.

This is not the first time he is facing sexual assault allegations.

Sheriff: Rooney arrested in December for public swearing, intoxication
Loudoun County Sheriff's Office confirmed he had been arrested and court files reveal he had to pay a find of $25. DC United said they were aware of the reports of Rooney's arrest in a statement issued to U.S. media.

News. "My client is leading by example". His lawyer is claiming these records are proof that Spacey did not assault the victim in a Nantucket bar.

The filing further stated that if Spacey attended the hearing, it would "only serve to heighten prejudicial media interest in the case and will increase the risk of contamination of the pool of jurors available for the trial". Spacey does not have to appear.

According to NBC News, the case first came to light in November 2017 after the Boston anchor, Heather Unruh, held a press conference and alleged Spacey groped her son's genitals at The Club Car.

On the same day he was charged in December, Spacey released a weird YouTube video in which he spoke in character as House of Cards' Frank Underwood to deny the allegations. It was unclear whether he was referring to the charge.

Mr Spacey said he had no memory of the event, but publicly apologised before issuing an "absolute" denial of all other allegations.

The star actor's career offers dried up after he was accused by actor Anthony Rapp in 2017 of making a sexual advance on him in 1986 when Rapp was 14 years old. Spacey said he did not remember the incident but apologized if the allegations were true.
