Amazon's Alexa now in more than 100 million devices

Google Assistant now works with over 10,000 smart home devices. And it has worked pretty well for Google.

Today, Google has made a decision to celebrate a big milestone a little early.

Amazon has revealed a new figure for its Alexa voice-assistant: the company says that more than 100m devices with Alexa pre-installed have been sold.

On Monday, Google announced in a blog post that Google Assistant users grew four times over the past year.

In the past year, Google Assistant has really been growing, in terms of devices and active users. Google is touting how Google Assistant has become more helpful.

Google says that Google Assistant will be on a billion devices by the end of January. There was an acute shortage of stocks in all countries and the company had a tough time to deal with production related woes. As well as many other features, and it also launched in many more countries in the past year. This total includes all devices that have Alexa built-in, and Amazon has opted not to reveal individual device sale data.

At CES 2019, Google has a big presence.

On paper, 1 billion devices looks like a huge win for the search giant, which has been racing to catch up to Amazon's Alexa over the last two years.

Also at the media event, Samsung introduced a new 75-inch Micro LED screen and a 219-inch The Wall display, ahead of the CES 2019. Plus, Google Assistant can interpret more complex requests, including questions like, "What's the weather like in Austin and NY?" "I think there will be more than that". One instance is text messaging. We're going to start talking more about that at Mobile World Congress, but definitely, there's a massive opportunity for voice interaction and assistive technology in those markets as well.
