After announcing she was considering running for president earlier this week, Elizabeth Warren headed to the fridge for a drink.

The criticism Smith said she's seen was echoed by other women in the crowd.

She's considering a 2020 presidential run with the goal of making life better for the middle class.

MARTIN: So what are the voters hearing from her? Still, her decision to go to Iowa first - and build up her campaign staff there - suggests she views it as critical to her efforts to rise to the top of a crowded field. Her video notes the economic challenges facing people of color along with images of a women's march and Warren's participation at an LGBT event. "And so I'm not sure she should have gotten into it, but anyway I hope she learned from it". "Those are the issues that I'm gonna talk about".

Smith, a financial data analyst who says she sees herself in Warren's "nerdy" personality, wondered why the MA senator chose to announce her exploratory committee ahead of other candidates, a move she predicted would be more necessary for people with less name recognition. These are over her claims of native ancestry.

"How about if the president spends his time getting the government back open?" The test, which showed she was at least 1/1024th Native American, was also denounced by the Cherokee nation that said using "a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong".

Warren announced on New Year's Eve that she was launching an exploratory committee ahead of the 2020 presidential election, becoming the first prominent Democrat to do so.

"It's important for everybody this year".

Warren's weekend itinerary includes a mix of small and large events. And joining her in Iowa was Joe Rospars, a recent Warren hire who was Barack Obama's digital strategist during his successful 2008 and 2012 campaigns.

Warren says it may be early, but she's already looking to tackle some major issues.

"I don't think most people know her personal story", said John Norris, who was the Iowa state director for John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign and an unsuccessful candidate for governor in the state previous year.

Despite her cold, Warren stuck around to shake hands and take pictures with attendees. "I think people will find her interesting".

Warren burst onto the national scene a decade ago during the financial crisis with calls for greater consumer protections.

"This is a moment when we should dream big, fight hard and take back our country, thank you", Senator Warren said.

Warren's travels will continue with an event Saturday night in the state capital of Des Moines, followed by a meeting with female leaders on Sunday in the rapidly growing suburb of Ankeny. Bernie Sanders' Iowa caucus director in 2016. "We need someone who knows we're going to be the ones taking care of the planet".

"I think that campaigns should not be for sale", she said.

Warren strayed little from the theme during her short speech and question-and-answer session.

"I'm ready for 2020 to start", said Brooke Smith, a lifelong Democrat from the neighboring state of Nebraska. And he anticipated voters would be ready for Warren's message. "But I still don't know enough about Sen. I don't think that does any good", said Punteney, the chair of the Pottawattamie County Democratic Party, who said he is nevertheless looking for a candidate "who's definitely going to stand up for themselves".
