Kevin Hart Discusses Stepping Down From Hosting The 2019 Oscars

Kevin Hart is apparently shutting the door on hosting the Oscars, despite seeming to suggest otherwise while talking to Ellen DeGeneres.

Describing hosting the Oscars as one of the biggest goals of his life, Hart tells Ellen in the clip that after just a day of celebration over being selected, he was "hit with an onslaught on social media of my past coming back up again".

Whether or not you believe Hart when he says "I don't have a homophobic bone in my body" - I certainly hope he's grown and matured as much as he says he has - are the Academy Awards really the forum for a teachable moment, which DeGeneres seems to be striving for? No, they weren't "haters" who came after you.

DeGeneres described going to dinner with Hart after she hosted the 2014 Oscars, when he expressed his desire to get the gig. "I called them. I said, 'Kevin's on".

Take a look at the interview below.

With no host set for the February date, hopefully the Academy will find a different way to proceed.

"Hi Ellen, I think you're a cool lady".

Hart said at the time that he was giving up the job because he was sorry for the hurt he caused and did not want to be a distraction, and in another statement said he did not want to contribute to "feeding the internet trolls" who dug up the tweets. Now, I'm kind of upset because these ten years are just being ignored. I believe in second chances.

Kevin said that when the tweets resurfaced, he made a decision to ignore them because it's something he's apologized for already and he's no longer that guy. "And I believe in Kevin Hart", DeGeneres wrote on Twitter Friday. "You've done it. Don't let those people win - host the Oscars", she concluded in her show. Leaving here, I'm promising you I'm evaluating this conversation.

Hart, though, said that he's not ready to forgive people for their "attack to end me", that is, bringing up old tweets.

Hart said the conversation made him reevaluate his position. "It's 2008, 2009, I'm figuring it out", he said of the time period when he posted the tweets. "This is stuff I've addressed, I've talked about this", he says.

On December 7, Hart stepped down from hosting the Oscars and issued an apology on Twitter: "I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past". I'm sorry. But either my apology is accepted or it isn't.

"I think he needs to come out and say I was wrong, that was ignorant, we have people that are killing themselves and committing suicide", she continued.

Though DeGeneres has been a beloved gay icon for years, her fans in and out of the LGBTQ community were extremely disappointed with her response to Hart's homophobic drama.
