On eve of ACA deadline, fewer Iowans enrolled compared to past year

Enrollment for health insurance for 2019 ends on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018.

Just over 4 million people have selected health care plans for 2019 so far, according to the marketplace.

The number of people signing up for health insurance through the Washington Health Benefit Exchange is less than previous years, but more customers are renewing insurance than in years past.

On Friday, a federal judge in Texas ruled the Affordable Care Act, a/k/a ObamaCare, should be invalidated completely.

"Since I was sworn in as Attorney General almost two years ago, I have fought to protect Pennsylvanians against any attempt to rollback their health coverage".

The law will remain in place while the ruling goes through the appeals process, which may include a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court.

Arizonans who do not enroll by the December 15deadline can't get 2019 coverage unless they qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

"For individuals and families who have not yet signed up in a health and dental plan for next year, this is a critical point in the open enrollment period", said Pam MacEwan, who urged people to "explore their options and connect with a plan before it is too late".

By Saturday's midnight deadline, enrollment may exceed last year's, when more than 114,000 individuals and families purchased a plan from ConnectiCare or Anthem, the two carriers offering plans on the exchange.

The Trump administration said in June that it would not defend several important provisions of Obamacare in court.

The focus for this year, as it was for last year, is to provide a seamless Open Enrollment experience for HealthCare.gov consumers. But such plans may appeal to healthy people looking for a measure of financial protection against an unexpected illness.

Health-care companies are making a last-minute push to delay ObamaCare taxes as part of a year-end government funding deal, but they face resistance from Democrats who want to punt the issue until next year when they control the House. Health insurers were seeking an average 19.4 percent increase.
