At stumps, India was at the score of 151/3 against Australia in the ongoing first Test at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. "If we capitalize on that, we will be in a very good place in this match", India paceman Jasprit Bumrah said after the day's play.

The tourists took an advantage into the second innings in Adelaide after bowling out Australia for 235 and then set about stretching their lead, first-innings centurion Cheteshwar Pujara again starring with an unbeaten 40.

Pujara was involved in a 71-run partnership with Kohli, who came in to bat just before tea with India vulnerable at 76 for two.

Batting in front of his home crowd, Head said he was disappointed to not add more runs but believed the game was "evenly poised". When we lost a couple of wickets, I think that partnership between Virat and Pujara was crucial. "I think the bowlers did a wonderful job to contain and continue to put pressure on them tonight". Starc picked the wicket of Murali Vijay who scored 18 runs from 53 balls.

For Australia, Aaron Finch, along with debutant Marcus Harris, came in the middle to open first innings.

On a hard batting track, Josh Hazlewood bowled four straight maidens to keep them contained before they began finding their range. Head and Mitchell Starc were the overnight batsmen. Lyon actually got Pujara out twice, but the decision was overturned by using Decision Review System.

On the way, he reached another milestone, joining a select few Indians - including Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid - to score 1,000 Test runs in Australia.

After two days of stifling hot conditions, a change rolled in Saturday and play began 45 minutes late in gloomy conditions, with the ground's lights on. Travis Head and Nathan Lyon got in on the act trying to get some quick runs, but Mohammad Shami got rid of Head (72 runs) and Hazlewood on back-to-back deliveries.

Ashwin and Bumrah had both finished with three wickets each as Australia's first innings ended early in the first session on the third day.
