As the West Bank Palestinian Cabinet welcomes the adoption five new United Nations resolutions in favor of the Palestinian people, the European Union Representative and the EU Heads of Mission in Jerusalem and Ramallah, Tuesday, condemned the death sentences issued in the Gaza Strip, on Monday, against six Palestinians convicted of collaborating with Israel, according to a statement.

In addition to six death sentences handed out by the Hamas terror group on Monday to Palestinians who allegedly "collaborated" with Israel, a Hamas-controlled court also sentenced another eight defendants in Gaza to prison for various periods.

Hamas fired hundreds of rockets at Israel in response, with the Jewish state striking dozens of targets in Gaza before a ceasefire agreement.

"The military court issued 13 different sentences against the suspects, including six to death", said Nasser Sleiman, head of the military court in the Gaza Strip.

The execution of the death sentences in Gaza takes place in spite of legal disputes over the matter. "Collaborators must realize the (Israeli) occupation will not be able to protect them". Officially 28 executions have been carried out in Gaza since Hamas seized control of Gaza in 2007 from Fatah.

Israel says the measure is necessary to isolate Hamas, though critics say they amount to collective punishment of the territory's two million residents.
