Trump says hopes to meet N.Korea’s Kim in January or February

At the U.N. General Assembly in NY that year, for example, Trump said the US would "totally destroy" North Korea if it continued with its provocative actions.

In a speech a year ago, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said he dreamt of building a railroad connecting the divided neighbours.

'(Trump) wishes Chairman Kim would implement the rest of their agreement and that he would make what Chairman Kim wants come true, ' Moon said Saturday.

Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have agreed to suspend any new tariffs in the trade war between the world's two largest economies following their meeting during the G20 summit.

After deriding Kim past year as "little rocket man" and threatening his country with "fire and fury", Trump has bestowed Kim with praise.

Moon said he and Trump agreed during their meeting that Kim's trip to Seoul would play a "very positive role" in U.S.

But differences have emerged between Washington and Seoul on how to proceed with Mr. Kim, as the dovish Mr. Moon has long favoured engagement with the North.

Mr Trump added that at some point he would invite Mr Kim to the United States.

The South Korean government is optimistic over Kim's visit to Seoul, which he promised during the third inter-Korean summit in September in Pyongyang. "We have a good relationship", he said.

After sharply raising tensions with nuclear and missile tests a year ago, Kim abruptly reached out to Moon and Trump with a vague nuclear disarmament pledge.

Prospects for a second summit to overcome a current logjam in negotiations will likely depend on whether either the USA or DPRK can show flexibility with regards to offering gestures surrounding sanctions relief or steps towards denuclearization.

Last November, a North Korean soldier was critically wounded in a jointly controlled area after he fled to the South amid a hail of bullets fired by his former comrades. But both Moon and Trump say fears of war on the Korean Peninsula have eased sharply.

Moon made the remark onboard his presidential plane that Trump asked him during their meeting Friday at the G20 in Buenos Aires to personally convey the message to Kim, reports Efe news.
